ActiveNav today announced that Brian McGovern has joined the company as Chief Customer Operations Officer. In this role, McGovern will lead customer operations and partner with customers as they operationalize data intelligence, strengthen governance, and drive measurable outcomes with better visibility and control of unstructured data.
McGovern brings deep experience building and scaling modern customer success, legal operations, data strategy, and time-to-value programs across global enterprises. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of Corporate Legal and Claims at Mitratech, advising large legal departments on data strategy, workflow design, enterprise litigation management, legal billing and panel management, AI initiatives, and reporting.
Before that, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Data Officer, Legal Operations at American International Group, where he led a multi-year transformation that reduced legal spend by more than $1.2 billion. He has held executive transformation roles at Merrill Lynch, General Electric, and Credit Suisse.
“Brian is the kind of operator who makes a real difference for customers,” said Peter Baumann, CEO of ActiveNav. “He’s been in the seat. He’s built programs that stick. As more legal and regulated teams face pressure to understand what they have, prove control, and move faster with less risk, Brian will help us scale how we deliver customer value while enhancing the high-touch, tailored service that sets us apart.”
McGovern has been recognized as an Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Value Champion and by the New York Law Journal as part of an Outstanding In-House Legal Department. He is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and holds two U.S. patents.
“I’m joining ActiveNav because the problem is real, and the approach is grounded,” said McGovern. “Most organizations aren’t short on data. They’re short on visibility, context, and a practical way to act. ActiveNav helps teams get control of unstructured data so they can govern it defensibly and use it with confidence. That’s the work I like: turning complexity into something people can run day to day.”
McGovern lives in Brookfield, Connecticut with his wife Janet, and they have three children. He also works with nonprofit organizations in his community.
