The Team

Peter Vardigans

Peter has been Chairman of the company since 2004, having been a non-executive director since 2003. His business experience spans more than 35 years; after an early career in finance at Ford and British Gas, in 1983 he was a founder (and subsequently Chief Executive) of Babcock & Brown in London and then an international partner of the firm. He now has a range of business interests and plays an active role in a number of private companies.

 

Peter Baumann

Peter joined the company as Chief Executive Officer in 2005.  During the past 20 years he has worked across a wide range of sectors and businesses including: Racal Defence, Laurent Bouillet, Bureau Van Dijk, Standard & Poors' and Wide Multimedia and since 1999 has been involved in a number of start-ups both as an employee and founder.  This experience has been instrumental in positioning Active Navigation to become a major innovative vendor of data discovery solutions but for Peter this is only the start and he has ambitious targets and vision for the company's growth and products during the coming years.

 

Roger Johnston

Roger joined the Company in 2009 as Vice-President Sales and Marketing; he has more than 20 years experience in the new technologies sector, where he has worked primarily in business and corporate development, marketing and sales in the UK and the USA. Recent roles were as Managing Director for Ever-Team Ltd, Chief Executive Officer for Open Fairways and between 2001 and 2005 Vice-President Business Development at Meridio, the document and records management specialist, before its sale in 2007 to Autonomy.
Roger has also worked for consultants such as Coopers and Lybrand (PwC) and Andersen Consulting (Accenture). He is a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast, in business administration.

 

Rich Hale

Rich is our Chief Technology Officer.  Rich is an engineer by background and, before joining Active Navigation spent 16 years with the RAF. He is an Information and knowledge management specialist. His last role before leaving the RAF to join Active Navigation was as Deputy Leader of a team responsible for the delivery of a programme directing and managing the adoption of improved Information Management practices across all RAF organisations.  The scope of the programme addressed information, organisational and behavioural change across more than 35 interrelated projects in order to radically improve the RAF’s ability to manage and exploit its information assets. It will deliver benefits at operational and enterprise levels, addressing the need to enable improved decision making whilst improving compliance with legal requirements.

Rich brings practical experience of enterprise-wide change and a background in information management with the RAF. He is particularly well qualified to shape the Company’s product blueprint to lead the information governance market.

 

Gary Hill

Gary has been at the centre of Active Navigation since its inception.  As our Head of Development, Gary brings the intellect, expertise and technological insight that drive all aspects of our software solutions.  Determined to resolve the complex issues that spawn from managing electronic information in the workplace, he and the development team make it possible for our clients to take control of their unstructured information.

 

David Dawson

David, our Financial Director, qualified at Coopers & Lybrand and has had extensive experience at board level in the food manufacturing, retail and IT sectors with United Biscuits, Grand Met, Courtaulds Textiles and Actinic.

He joined Actinic in 1996, in its early stages, and helped the company grow to become the UK leader in the supply of packaged e-commerce software. During David's tenure, Actinic raised capital from a business angel, a VC, and on the stock market when Actinic was listed on the London stock exchange. The finance functions that David has led have been wholly focussed on the needs of the business and he has personally created or initiated profit improving systems in each of his roles.

 

Becky Thomas

A successful entrepreneur with 25 years of managing and driving multimillion dollar sales growth in enterprise content management, Becky Thomas is our Vice President of Sales for North America. Becky has held senior sales roles in a number of companies including Meridio. Throughout her career, Becky has provided consulting services for infrastructure, security, regulatory compliance enterprise content management and storage solutions for a number of leading energy companies including ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell Oil and Marathon Oil. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix, Houston.
