Southampton, 4 February 2005. The UK Government's e-Gov initiative aims to help make sharing of information between Government organizations more straightforward by mandating standards for interconnectivity, data integration, e-services access and content management.

The main aims of the initiative are:

• Making the internet the primary delivery mechanism
• The standardized tagging of Government data
• Ensuring that Government data systems store and share information in XML

A significant aspect of the initiative is the introduction of the GCL (Government Category List) and LGCL (Local Government Category List), which are standardized taxonomies to ensure that all Government content on similar subjects is tagged with pre-defined meta-data.

A problem faced by many Government organizations is the time required to manually prepare documents to comply with these structures.

Active Navigation's solution significantly reduces the manual effort required to prepare content and place it within these structures. Active Navigation is able to suggest suitable placement whilst enabling the person preparing the content to override these suggestions - this approach to "tagging" has been shown to reduce the level of manual effort required by at least 50%.
